Human communication and expression rely heavily on facial expression, which should always be maintained. Dr. Christie believes in the balance of maintaining human expression and utilizing neurotoxins to strategically soften wrinkles at rest.

Advanced Anti-aging Therapy

WHAT ARE NEUROMODULATORS?
Neuromodulators, such as Botox, are FDA-approved to treat face wrinkles such as “11” lines between the eyebrows, frown lines, and forehead creases. They are developed from the botulinum toxin and work by paralyzing muscles resulting in prevention of wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for typical creases.

Types of Neuromodulators

AVAILABLE PRODUCTS
There are now various neuromodulator products available, popular neuromodulaters include Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin. Although the effect of neuromodulator therapy is most apparent during facial expression, wrinkles evident at rest can also be improved. While Botox has remained the gold standard for treating repetitive facial muscle movement, a new neuromodulator has hit the scene—Daxxify, which offers longer-lasting results.

When is the best time to begin using a neuromodulator?

This is an individualized decision that depends on many factors. Los Angeles Neuromodulators provider Dr. Christie will discuss this with you in consultation as well as develop a long-term strategy for usage. Neuromodulators may be the answer if you have moderate to severe wrinkles and are looking for immediate gratification from a rejuvenation therapy. Many patients are concerned that once they start neurotoxins they are committed for life. Dr. Christie does not subscribe to this philosophy but rather believes that with neuromodulators Los Angeles patients have a tool to use as part of an anti-aging strategy. The ultimate goal is minimal usage as you invest into improving your skin quality.

Is there an alternative to Botox?

Argireline is a natural peptide with similar effects to Botulinum Toxin A, and at Curated Beauty Rx we offer this as a natural alternative. Proven in clinical trials to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Argireline acts by inhibiting your nerve’s ability to release a signal to muscles for movement, thus softening movements leading to wrinkles.

Xeomin

Xeomin provides exceptional results and is an excellent alternative for individuals who no longer react to Botox or Dysport treatments.

DAXXIFY

The new kid on the market has a unique peptide constituent. DAXXIFY does not contain any animal-based or human serum albumin-derived ingredients. In addition, DAXXIFY’s results endure for as long as six months, twice as long as Botox is another main advantage.

Dysport

Dysport, like Botox, is a natural-looking way to smooth frown lines (also known as the “11’s) for up to 5 months. Many patients prefer Dysport – as over half of it’s users see improvement in 2-3 days as opposed to 2 weeks.

Jeuveau

Jeuveau is a modern take on Botox. Made from prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs, Jeuveau is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Botox should be tailored for each person, and there is no one right age to start using this treatment, but there is a correct way it should be utilized. Each patient will start at a different age, depending on their anatomic features. When you start noticing wrinkles at rest is when you should consider botox.

Hyperhidrosis

This condition is defined as sweating that disrupts normal activities. It can be focal and is commonly active in armpits, hands, feet, and groins where sweat glands are concentrated. Hyperhidrosis can cause embarrassment and anxiety and be refractory to over-the-counter treatments. Botox injections block the nerves that trigger the sweat glands. Patients with Hyperhidrosis may need several injections for effective results.

Cervical Dystonia

This condition often results in disabling neck pain and can occur (aka torticollis, laterocollis, anterocollis, retrocollis) and can be treated effectively with Botox. Additionally, botox can be used to aesthetically lengthen the neck in patients who have a short neck due to trapezius hypertrophy.

Neck bands

Prominent muscle (platysma) bands in the neck can be injected with a neurotoxin to relax the muscle and make the neck appear more smooth during animation. The platysmal bands are often cut during neck lifts and this is a non-surgical way of softening neck bands.

TMJ

Temporo-mandibular joint is used when talking, eating, swallowing, and other activities. When this joint becomes overworked through excessive teeth grinding or overworked, a person may suffer from severe tension headaches and sharp pain in the jaw. Combined with our chiropractic alignment, neurotoxin injection into facial muscles afflicted with soreness and discomfort relieves TMJ and jaw tension.

You want to keep in mind that repeated botox use causes atrophy of that muscle over time (this is sometimes the intended use i.e., when used in the masseters to slim the face). However, in certain areas (like the forehead), constant freezing of that shape of muscle can result in an atrophy forehead with a heavy brow. This can be prevented by alternating areas of botox and preventing muscle atrophy. In general, botox lasts three months. I will generally recommend botox touch-ups every six months in a given area to my patients. This gives periods of animation in between paralysis and prevents muscle atrophy.
