Traditional (Coronal) Brow Lift

This method, often known as a classic or open brow lift, was pioneered in the 1980s. The coronal brow lift (which results in a full-length incision along the hairline) corrects eyebrow asymmetry and can shift the hairline upwards or downwards to shorten or lengthen the forehead. This technique is utilized when hairline advancement is desired in combination with a brow lift.

Direct Brow Lift

This older approach works best in patients with prominent forehead rhytids (wrinkles) who need a more powerful elevation post closest to the brow. The scar is typically hidden in a forehead wrinkle, and favorable scarring is required for this procedure. Elderly patients with visual field obstructions from brow ptosis typically use this technique.

YOUR TEMPORAL BROW LIFT PROCEDURE
Our Los Angeles brow lift patients usually have a temporal brow lift performed as an outpatient operation under anesthesia. The procedure typically takes one to two hours (depending on the combination of procedures performed). Local anesthesia is injected into both temples, and two very small incisions are made just beyond the hairline. Dissection is performed via these small incisions to elevate the lateral portion of the face. The fascia is then resuspended with sutures, and any excess skin is removed simultaneously. The incisions are closed with extreme care to preserve hair follicles around the scar, allowing invisible healing.

Temporal Brow Lifts are one of Dr. Christie’s favorite procedures to perform and are a powerful way of rejuvenating the upper face. TEMPORAL BROW LIFT RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE
Mild swelling and bruising can occur after surgery and resolves within one week. Pain is most often managed with over-the-counter pain medications. The recovery is relatively short, and Dr. Christie’s accelerated recovery protocols allow her professional, patient population to return to work quickly. Activity restrictions remain in place for up to two weeks, and can be tailored to each patient.

In comparison to other types of cosmetic surgery, a brow lift has minimal side effects or complications. However, certain risks include nerve injury, alopecia at the incision site, and swelling or bruising can occur. Dr. Christie will discuss risks in detail during your preoperative visit.
During your session, Dr. Christie will review surgical and non-surgical options for a brow lift procedure. As an invasive procedure, a surgical brow lift might require up to two weeks of recuperation. However, it is the most successful way to change the appearance of your forehead. Non-surgical upper face rejuvenation is possible using botox and dermal fillers for those who feel that they are not ready for surgical intervention.
You will have small scars well hidden within the hairline and generally not visible once healed. Dr. Christie likes to ensure the preservation of hair follicles in and around the scar with a very careful and precise incision technique. For those at risk for alopecia or with advanced stages of hairline recession, Dr. Christie will add hair rejuvenating techniques to encourage hair restoration at the scar site.
Yes, a brow lift can correct uneven eyebrow positioning if the problem is simply a skin length difference. It is a commonly used procedure to correct eyebrow positioning.
