It’s All in the Details

UNDERSTANDING YOUR BEAUTY MATRIX
Dr. Christie’s 360 approach to lower facial rejuvenation includes treatment of the three components of aging: Skin Quality, Skin Laxity, and Volume. Treating your skin quality helps improve the quality of skin that is left behind. Skin laxity is excised during a neck lift and is the primary reason for performing this procedure. Volume is also addressed during a Neck Lift with the removal of excess and/or fat transfer to necks that appear harsh or overly thinned due to aging or previous procedures.

Level Up Your Look

WHAT IS A NECK LIFT?
There are many factors that play a role in facial structure, and many of us are not born with chiseled jawlines. The neck lift addresses aging (or genetics) of the lower face and is often paired with other facial rejuvenation procedures. Neck lift incisions can be the same as those made during a facelift or just kept isolated behind the ear. Resuspension is performed to remove muscle laxity on the sides of the neck and central neck. Excess fat is then addressed with either direct excision or liposuction, followed by removal of excess skin. The length of the scar (and location) depends in part on how much laxity is present in the neck.

Preventative

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A NECK LIFT?
Dr. Christie believes in taking a proactive approach to preventative aging. One of the first signs of aging occurs around the lower face. A strong, commanding jawline is what separates young from old and is a powerful way to reset your aging clock. Studies show that a strong jawline can be associated with leadership qualities and give you perceived confidence and authority. Dr. Christie believes that with a neck lift Los Angeles patients will have a high-yield return on their investment in renewing their youth.

Eliminate the Tech Neck

Patients who constantly use tech devices, such as cell phones, laptops, or gaming consoles, often develop neck bands due to changes in collagen and elastin and repetitive neck flexion. Treatment of neck wrinkles may combine non-surgical and surgical modalities. Dr. Christie likes to treat the root of the problem by softening the animation of the neck muscle and utilizing aesthetic technology to address changing skin quality. Many times she will use this rejuvenation along with a mini neck lift to address any skin excess.

Mini-Neck Lift

A mini-neck lift addresses the first signs of aging in the lower face and neck. Dr. Christie considers this a gap procedure for patients who are not ready for a full neck lift but want to do something preventative. This procedure has a low risk profile and is typically performed as an in-office procedure under local anesthesia. The purpose of a mini-neck lift is to resuspend any laxity in the platysma neck muscle while removing excess skin. Incision burden depends on the degree of skin excess however it’s typically limited to behind the ear. The recovery on this is reduced to one week, and sutures that are well hidden behind the ear are removed within five to seven days. This procedure is not meant for patients who have more advanced aging.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A mini neck lift addresses double chins, mild jowling, and any turkey wattle (or skin excess) to create a more sculpted jawline. Patients with more advanced laxity are best served with a traditional neck lift.
Candidates undergoing a neck lift should be generally healthy, have noticeable excess skin and laxity around the neck, and have realistic expectations for their procedure. A neck lift can produce impressive results on its own, but for a more well-balanced outcome, it is frequently combined with a facelift, brow lift, chin implant, or other facial rejuvenation therapies. Dr. Christie will review your medical history during your consultation to ensure there are no conditions that may negatively impact your safety during the procedure.
Results depend in part on the stage of aging that you present in combination with your current rate of aging. A mini neck lift does not have the same power of rejuvenation as a traditional neck lift and, as such, has a shorter lifespan. Typically patients can appreciate the benefit for five years and then prolong results with maintenance.
Pain after neck lifts are typically well managed with over-the-counter medications and occasionally prescription medications. Platysmaplasty can create a tightness in the neck that is present for 2 weeks.
Results from a neck lift are immediate and continue to improve as your swelling resolves. Depending on the type of neck lift performed, you should see final results within 1-3 months.
A non-surgical neck lift is designed for patients who have a combination of lipodystrophy (excess fat) and mild skin excess. It involves a combination of FDA-approved skin tightening treatments with lipocontouring. Dr. Christie uses FaceTite, Renuvion with or without liposuction to address excess volume and encourage skin contraction with technology. This is often combined with RF microneedling treatments to address skin quality and neurotoxins to soften neck bands.
Among the risks associated with a neck lift are bleeding, infection, pain, and poor wound healing at the incision site. You may also experience nerve injury, numbness, and facial asymmetry. During your visit, Dr. Christie will discuss these potential risks with you.
Every cosmetic surgery is tailored to the specific demands of each patient. Therefore, the procedure's cost will vary. Dr. Christie will discuss the cost of your operation during your consultation.
