WHAT IS A LIP LIFT?
A lip lift is a procedure that shortens the space between the top lip and the base of the nose by getting rid of extra skin just below the nose. The cuts are made in the natural creases around the nose to hide the incisions. By making the space between the nose and the top lip shorter, more of the red area (vermillion) is shown, making your lips look fuller and younger. A Lip Lift will also roll the vermillion border, the line between your lip skin and vermillion. This helps make the Cupid’s bow stand out more and shows off more of your upper teeth (tooth show).

Dr. Christie spends significant time planning the incision and observing your animation patterns to determine the correct amount of skin to resect. This procedure can be done in the office under local or under sedation. After detailed marking, Dr. Christie will inject you with numbing medication, remove the excess skin with artful expertise then close with precision.

Continuous Care

LIP LIFT RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE
Although Dr. Christie customizes recovery for each person, it will likely be quick, with mild swelling in weeks one and two. External sutures are typically removed five to seven days after the surgery. The scar will diminish after two weeks but takes six to eight weeks to heal. Most patients typically alleviate discomfort with over-the-counter medication, but many patients experience no post-operative pain. A mild tightness can be experienced for two to three months due to swelling.
Most problems with a lip lift happen because the surgery wasn't done right. When the upper lip is not fixed to a stable base, the tension can cause poor scarring. Additionally, if too much skin is removed, restoring length is challenging. Poor scarring is one of the biggest risks, and patient selection, along with surgical technique, helps mitigate this risk.
When performed correctly, a lip lift won't affect your ability to smile but should rather enhance your smile with improved teeth visibility and fuller lips.
A lip lift will not remove smoker’s lines as these lines represent a change in skin quality and volume loss not addressed with the removal of excess skin.

If you have an elongated lower face or mid-face, a lip lift can restore balance in proportions.
