WHAT IS SKIN RESURFACING?
Skin Resurfacing, or ablative laser resurfacing, is where a laser (an intense beam of light energy) is deployed to destroy the outer layer of skin, also known as the epidermis, and to penetrate the inner layer of skin, the dermis, to spur collagen production and build healthy skin tone and texture. The Opus Fractionated Plasma skin resurfacing treatment creates minute channels in which plasma energy is applied to the dermis layer of the skin.

The plasma energy is sparked by RF energy and is excellent for body resurfacing of large areas, especially on darker skin types. This is not to be confused with the Plasma Pen, which we do not utilize. The plasma energy of Opus is excellent for resurfacing melanin-rich skin types and can cover large body surface areas with minimal downtime. If you are bothered by age spots, pore size, acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles or are just looking to improve skin quality, you’re a good fit for laser skin resurfacing. However, in the wrong hands, skin resurfacing can be dangerous. Skin conditioning prior to this treatment enhances results and minimizes potential risks. This is thoroughly discussed during the consultation with Dr. Christie.

Your Skin Resurfacing Procedure

Skin Resurfacing technologies are generally well tolerated with topical numbing up to 1 hour in advance of your procedure. Your comfort and experience are an important part of your results! During laser skin resurfacing Los Angeles patients will receive topical numbing to the treatment area in combination with a choice of medication or laughing gas to make you comfortable. Treatment times vary based on treatment areas. Dr. Christie and her team of experts have personally tried all technologies performed at Curated Beauty Rx. As such, we can help manage your expectations with discomfort and downtime.

Energy devices represent a controlled injury to your skin. In order to control the injury, we want to ensure that you prepare your skin by avoiding excessive skin trauma for at least one week leading up to treatment (this may be longer depending on your skin health, and individual modifications will be made in advance of your treatment).
  • Avoid excess sun or unprotected sun exposure four weeks prior to the scheduled procedure.
  • Do not use tanning products two weeks prior to treatment.
  • Review active exfoliants or retinoids with our team prior to scheduling treatment. We will sometimes require holding for one to two weeks prior
  • Avoid skin irritants such as excessive exfoliation, steam rooms, or aggressive massaging. It is also not that you start new skin products just prior to scheduled treatment unless directed by one of our Skin Specialists.
  • For men, please shave the day prior to treatment to minimize skin irritation and maximize hair removal.
  • Avoid certain medications, such as topical antibiotics.
  • If you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters, advanced viral suppression may be required to prevent the reactivation of the virus.
  • This treatment is not indicated for pregnant or nursing females as it requires a topical numbing cream.
  • Smoking cessation is required as it impairs microcirculation and can interfere with healing.

Recovery time from any of our Skin Resurfacing procedures varies depending on how much downtime you have and can range from three to ten days. Lighter settings result in less downtime. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Skin resurfacing typically is minimally painful. A topical anesthetic can be applied to the skin, and cooling agents can be used throughout the treatment to lessen any discomfort from the heat of the laser. At Curated Beauty MedSpa, we also offer medications or laughing gas for extra comfort.
CO2 lasers are excellent at treating wrinkles, photodamage, scars, and stretch marks as they improve skin quality and, due to the depth of light penetration, also provide a degree of skin tightening.
CO2 resurfacing in the wrong hands can be dangerous. It is important to find a qualified doctor who is trained in laser treatments. Risks include scarring, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, uneven skin tone, activation of herpes virus, bacterial infections, swelling, acne outbreak, or milia.
Patients who are on Accutane, have a history of keloids or are pregnant/breastfeeding, or have recent sun exposure are not candidates for resurfacing procedures.
CO2 resurfacing treatment time depends on the surface area being covered but typically takes 30-40 minutes.
