Age-Defying Eyes

WHAT IS A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
Our eyes are often our most personal feature. When upper eyelids sag or bags under your eyes make you look tired, Blepharoplasty is the procedure of choice. Eyelid surgery removes extra fat, skin, and muscle from the lower and upper eyelids, giving you a much younger appearance. The surgery takes about 45 minutes, but the results can subtly but noticeably improve your appearance.

Another Look

WHAT IS A NON-SURGICAL BLEPHAROPLASTY?
Non-surgical options are best for patients with mild eyelid laxity or lower lid puffiness. Options for eyelid lift or rejuvenation that do not involve an incision include aesthetic technology that address mild laxity of skin or puffiness of lower lids. Los Angeles Blepharoplasty provider Dr. Christie’s in-depth understanding of technologies in combination with her surgical skills gives her a unique advantage in using technology to achieve what appear to be surgical results.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR BEAUTY MATRIX
Dr. Christie’s version of blepharoplastyincludes surgical options, non-surgical options, or hybrid blepharoplasty that can give you the rejuvenating results you are looking for. Blepharoplasty should also include a balance of Dr. Christie’s Beauty Matrix in addressing skin quality, excess skin and potential volume loss that contribute to the aged appearance of your eyelids. The eyes are a very important facial feature and small changes can be transforming in a positive or negative way. Dr. Christie’s balanced approach yields natural results that maintain your unique identity and look. Understanding and customizing treatments to address signs of eyelid aging while maintaining your unique anatomy is at the heart of Dr. Christie’s rejuvenations.

A Personalized Approach
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BLEPHAROPLASTY?
Eyelid surgery can be done to address functional problems as well as cosmetic ones. With blepharoplasty Los Angeles patients can address these common issues: under-eye bags, excess skin, drooping upper eyelids that impede your vision, and puffy eyes. During your consultation, Dr. Christie will discuss your best aesthetic and functional results options. No two procedures are alike because Dr. Christie believes in a personalized approach to your aesthetic care. When working with patients with ethnic skin, such as African-Americans or Asians, special considerations related to scarring should be considered when choosing rejuvenation options.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY?
Most healthy adults are acceptable candidates for blepharoplasty. Although the average patient is at least 35 years old, younger patients with inherited eyelid impairments may choose to undergo the procedure. Candidates for eyelid surgery should have realistic expectations for the procedure’s outcome. Although eyelid surgery can make you look younger and more confident, the procedure has some limits. If you have dry eyes, hypertension, circulatory problems, thyroid disorders, diabetes, heart disease, or glaucoma, you should consult with Dr. Christie before undergoing surgery to ensure that Blepharoplasty is the proper procedure for you.

YOUR BLEPHAROPLASTY PROCEDURE
Based on the treatment plan you discussed during your consultation, Dr. Christie will administer intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The incision on the upper eyelid is carefully planned to maintain your natural eye shape and conceal the scar within the eyelid’s natural crease. The incision for the lower eyelid could be made immediately below the lash line, at the outer corner of the eye, or within lid (transconjunctival incision). Prominent fat pads can be removed or repositioned. The incision is then carefully closed with permanent external sutures that are removed in 5 days.

BLEPHAROPLASTY RECOVERY AND RESULTS
Dr. Christie will give you detailed instructions on how to care for the skin around your eyes and eyelids as you recover from surgery. They will include the application of cold compresses and eyelid lubricants. Blepharoplasty usually heals quickly. Minor swelling and bruising are to be expected, but these side effects will fade in a few days. Within two weeks, you can resume your regular routines. Your stunning results will appear as soon as the inflammation and bruising subside and will also be long-lasting.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Post-operative discomfort is usually minor and often treated with over-the-counter pain medication. It is vital to adhere to all post-surgical instructions for optimal healing.
Minor risks are rare and include dry eyes, weeping, scarring, and difficulty in closing your eyes. Dr. Christie will discuss potential risks and side effects during your consultation.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty requires only small incisions in the natural crease of the eyelids, so the scars should be difficult to see once healed. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty makes incisions on the interior eyelid, so there is no visible scarring. Patients may experience some redness around the incisions immediately following surgery, but this usually fades within a few weeks.
